Redevelopment of the Bouctouche Wharf
Bouctouche, July 15, 2020 — Following ACOA’s announcement on June 23, 2020 confirming investments in projects that promote jobs, growth and tourism opportunities in New Brunswick, the Town of Bouctouche is proud to make the official announcement of the Bouctouche Wharf redevelopment project. The wharf has been part of the community for a very long time and is still considered one of the major pillars for tourism, fishing and recreational activities. In 2016, the Town had to close public access to the wharf for safety reasons and since then, several solutions have been considered.
Today, we are announcing that the redevelopment of the wharf will begin this fall and be completed in the spring of 2021. Funding for this $2.4 million project comes from contributions from the federal, provincial, municipal governments and others. The project consists of improving the structure of the wharf and adding 3 meters in height. The objective of this project is to use of the wharf for various recreational activities, festivals and other events that will attract more tourism to the region.
The development of the Bouctouche wharf has always been part of the long-term vision of Bouctouche Town Council. Projects like the Farmers’ Market and the wharf materialize this vision and we are very grateful to have received support for these projects. Having access to the river from our downtown is an asset for Bouctouche and we must at all costs preserve this unique trait.
Mayor – Roland Fougère
